The COVID-19 crisis has torn down cultural barriers, giving way to significant societal momentum towards systemic change for a more sustainable and equitable world. This is what emerges from a recent survey by the World Economic Forum - Ipsos, where almost 9 out of 10 of the over 21.000 interviewed from 28 different countries declare themselves ready to live in a more sustainable and responsible way in the post-Covid era. We can therefore observe an acceleration in realizing, as quickly as possible, the objectives of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and a paradigm shift by finance, the most dynamic segments of the economic world, politics and civil society. Even La Lucente Spa – the longest-lived and most solid of companies in the Global Service and Facility Management sector in Italy, with a business history spanning four generations, is implementing an important path in this direction.

Close to celebrating its centenary, today La Lucente SpA has 3.000 employees and a national network of 13 offices and branches, operating in the cleaning & facility management sectors.

Aware of its role in society, La Lucente makes sustainability the center of gravity of its actions and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) a strategic choice capable of making a concrete impact, producing value for the territories of reference and combining profit, environmental protection and social policies. In this direction goes the Programming 2021, presented by CEO Angelo Volpe on the occasion of the inauguration of the new BoD, held last January. The plan interprets and represents a commitment to innovation and dynamism that has already started over the years, through the protocols adopted by the various corporate functions and thanks to the voluntary acquisition of specific industry certifications such as ISO 14001 – Environmental Management System which demonstrates that the organization has an adequate management system to keep the environmental impacts of its activities under control, and systematically seeks improvement in a coherent, effective and above all sustainable manner; and the  EU Ecolabel (the European Eco-label which certifies the reduced environmental impact of the products and services offered by the companies that have obtained their use, ed.). Also arriving at Lucente's house la EMAS registration – Eco-Management and Audit Schemee: it is a tool created by the European Community to which the SpA has voluntarily adhered with the aim of evaluating and improving its environmental performance, providing the public and other interested parties with information on its environmental management. Under the banner of a profound sense of responsibility towards the reference territories and the community, for 2021 La Lucente recognizes the need to pollute even less, implementing more use of systems aimed at reducing Co2, as well as recyclable packaging and biodegradable and plant-based detergents. La Lucente also intends to implement an operational plan completely oriented towards the circular economy, which integrates various industrial fields and sectors. All this will take place by allocating about 3% of turnover to green conversion. Also significant are the investments envisaged in terms of digitization and training aimed at increasing the skills of operators in terms of effectiveness, transparency, sustainability and openness to Europe. The partnership with ECS – European Customer Synergy, a pan-European company based in Brussels, of which La Lucente became a member in 2020. An opportunity to network and create synergies between the main sector companies throughout the Union with the aim of providing customers with integrated solutions and a complete suite of facility management services in compliance with the sustainability standards recognized by the international community , building alliances for a sustainable European industry.

“We try to offer our customers solutions which, for the same result, have the least environmental impact, even when this choice entails higher costs for us - underlines Angelo Volpe - The new managing director of La Lucente Spa - An example above all: in relation sanitation, we are really proud of the use of peroxide to replace chlorine because with equal effectiveness it does not release toxic compounds harmful to health, the environment and people. In this regard, we have honored an awareness campaign on board all the bus fleets for which we have been entrusted with sanitization: ATB Bergamo, AMTAB Bari and AMAT Taranto. Soon those who travel with these means will be able to see it. We are preparing to prepare the campaign also for other transport companies and not only, where we carry out the service.”

Lucente Spa is also an incubator of ideas and an operator active in the area, with the aim of rewarding excellence and supporting training activities related to green issues, training innovative professional figures who can find virtuous business poles in their area in which to employ their skills. In this context, a strategic partnership was finalized with the Polytechnic of Bari on the occasion of the II level University Master's Degree in "Circular Economy", jointly provided by Poliba and the School of Higher Education and Specialized Studies for Professionals. The Master's aims to provide future circular economy manager the knowledge, techniques and managerial tools suitable for making the business consistent with the concept of sustainable development and in particular for guiding the transformation process from a linear to a circular production model. Lucente SpA, in addition to funding a scholarship to assist a deserving student in attending the Master's, will welcome three of the participants to the company for an internship.
