A stand for testing on genetic predisposition to cancer

La Lucente SpA confirms its presence at the edition of the Race for the Cure 2026Starting from the afternoon of Friday 15 May at 15pm and until Sunday 17th, inside the Health Village set up in Piazza Libertà, in Bari, thanks to the agreement with Bari Polyclinic e University of Bari Aldo Moro, it will be possible to take a test inside the stand dedicated to Oncology Genetic Counseling (CGO).

TO WHOM IS IT ADDRESSED?

The initiative is open to women and men with a personal and/or family history of cancer: not just breast cancer, but any form of cancer that may be associated with a hereditary predisposition. Special attention is paid to diagnoses of breast or prostate cancer, especially in families with pancreatic, gastrointestinal, or other cancers.

During the event, specialists in Medical Genetics from the Policlinico di Bari and the University of Bari will provide genetic counseling to assess, based on personal and family history, whether genetic testing is appropriate. Those eligible will be able to provide a simple saliva swab directly on-site, after signing an informed consent form, for analysis at the Medical Genetics laboratories at the Policlinico di Bari. The analysis currently covers over 100 genes associated with hereditary cancer predisposition syndromes, allowing for a comprehensive risk assessment that is up-to-date with the latest scientific evidence.

"Even this year – declared Angelo Volpe, CEO of La Lucente SpA – We wholeheartedly support the Race for the Cure, a key event to raise awareness of the importance of prevention and early diagnosis. Businesses can make a concrete contribution to projects that have a real impact on people's health and well-being. For us, this commitment takes on an even deeper meaning: over 60% of La Lucente's workforce is women, and we therefore feel a strong responsibility to support initiatives dedicated to protecting women's health and spreading a culture of prevention.

Why it is important

CGO is a conscious process that, thanks to the expertise of Medical Genetics specialists at the Policlinico and the University of Bari, allows patients to understand their risk profile, schedule targeted surveillance, and, where necessary, extend the assessment to family members. Bringing this service into an open and participatory context like Race for the Cure means making precision medicine accessible to all, breaking down the barriers between research and the community.

“Lucente confirms once again that it stands alongside Komen in promoting the culture of prevention – these are the words of Linda Catucci, president of the Komen-Puglia Regional Committee – The synergy between the third sector and local businesses is key to building a more informed and healthier Puglia. Thanks to this contribution, thousands of women will be able to access free specialist counseling on the genetic prevention of breast cancer, receiving valuable information to protect their health and that of their families.
